In his latest album, London born singer-songwriter Rupert Wates paints a somber portrait of a dark and lawless world. With a poet’s passionate eloquence, Wates sings of the threat of apocalyptic violence, the fragility of dreams and the brevity of life.
The intensity of Wates’s lyrics is underlined by a spare and simple production and a basic line up of only guitar, bass and percussion. The album was recorded live in the studio, most of the songs going down in a single take, achieving the organic quality of an actual performance. It features dazzling contributions from outstanding musicians including Michael Manring on fretless bass and Grant Dermody on blues harp.
